Two New Moons To Go. . .

Until the next opportunity to observe World Day of Conscience.

Unfortunately not much is likely to happen on August 1st 2008 since I have had very little practical support for my proposal and do not have the time and resources to promote it single-handedly. The only way that World Day of Conscience will ever become established as a world-wide examination of conscience is if enough people around the world decide that it is a good idea and work to promote World Day of Conscience and organize observances in the areas that they live.

The First Anniversary of the First Observance Of World Day Of Conscience

Dear Fellow Human Beings,

Today marks the first anniversary of the first observance of World Day of Conscience which took place on March 29th, 2006 when the total solar eclipse "Eye of God" symbolically "looked down from the heavens" upon Brazil, Africa, Turkey and Russia. The next observance of World Day of Conscience will take place on August 1st, 2008 when the total solar eclipse "Eye of God" will appear in the skies over China, Mongolia, Russia, and the Arctic regions including Greenland and some of Canada's Arctic islands such as Ellesmere Island, Devon Island, Somerset Island and Prince of Wales Island. It is my hope that by August 1st, 2008 World Day of Conscience will be reasonably well publicized and observed in various ways by thousands of people, if not some millions of human beings, in most parts of the world. If I am able to I will organize some observances of World Day of Conscience in the path of totality on one or more of Canada's Arctic Islands.

I made very serious personal sacrifices of both time and money in trying to promote the first observance of World Day of Conscience. I pretty much worked full time on it without pay for most of February and March last year. None of the various organizations that I invited to participate in World Day of Conscience, including various religious groups and NGOs such as Amnesty International etc. responded to my invitations. None of the major newpapers published any of the numerous letters to the editor that I sent out announcing World Day of Conscience. In fact, with only one or two exceptions, the only logistical support that I received came from members of the StumbleUpon social blogging community who helped to pass the word on to others.

If it was not for the StumbleUpon community I do not know how many people would even have known about World Day of Conscience. I was able to contact several hundred to a few thousand Stumblers directly and some of these Stumblers then passed the news on to other people. One of the Stumblers who I contacted directly turned out to be the editor of a Turkish business magazine and she saw fit to mention World Day of Conscience in an article she wrote about the upcoming March 29th 2006 total solar eclipse which was seen in Turkey. The editor of the Middle East Times published a letter to the editor that I sent to him about my proposal for World Day of Conscience so in the end I expect that tens of thousands of people if not a few hundred thousand people were at least made aware of the first World Day of Conscience.

I would like to thank all of those people, Stumblers or otherwise, who helped to spread the word about World Day of Conscience last year and I am calling upon my fellow human beings to provide some support for World Day of Conscience. Due to a variety of circumstances, including making additional serious financial sacrifices in attempting to help a Stumbler who was in need of some help last summer, I have not been able to recover from the serious financial sacrifices that I made in my efforts to promote the first observance of World Day of Conscience. I would appreciate it very much if those people who believe that World Day of Conscience is a worthwhile cause could provide some financial support that will allow me to get back on my feet and devote more effort to promoting and organization the next observance of World Day of Conscience. If you are interested in providing some support please contact me email at -

If some generous people could send a donation using PayPal that would be most appreciated.

Thank you,

The Next Observance Of World Day Of Conscience Is August 1st, 2008

The total solar eclipse "Eye of God" will appear in the skies of the Arctic not long before the anniversaries of the atomic bombings of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In light of this I am proposing that the next observance of World Day of Conscience should place some emphasis on global warming and the prevention of nuclear war.

The Tick Tock Of The Doomsday Clock. . .

I have been meaning to revive the World Day of Conscience blog for some time now. A variety of circumstances and distractions kept me from posting anything new for several months but I have felt the need to start promoting and organizing the next observance of World Day of Conscience set for August 1st, 2008 for some time now. Today's news that the Doomsday Clock has been set forward by a few minutes due to the dangers posed by global warming and unresolved nuclear arms tensions had given me the push to at least get started again. I posted a comment on The Guardian newspaper's Comment Is Free blog that I will reproduce here -

Global warming may actually be a greater threat to humanity, to say nothing of other species, than nuclear war. A combination of global warming and nuclear war could be particularly catastrophic for life on Earth. Human conflicts brought on by climactic changes caused by global warming could provoke major wars including nuclear war. Human beings would do well to take the threat posed by global warming every bit as seriously as the threat of nuclear war.

The second observance of World Day of Conscience will take place on August 1st, 2008 when the total solar eclipse "Eye of God" will symbolically "look down from the heavens" upon the Earth's Arctic regions. Global warming is having a serious effect on the Arctic regions. This second observance of World Day of Conscience takes place about a week before the 63rd anniversaries of the dropping of the atomic bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the path of totality of the August 1, 2008 total solar eclipse follows a trajectory similar to that of a nuclear missile flying over the Arctic between America and Russia or China. For these reason I believe that it is appropriate for the second observance of World Day of Conscience to place an emphasis on the prevention of nuclear war and dealing with global warming.

More information about World Day of Conscience may be found on the World Day of Conscience blog which I will try to update soon.

A Breakthrough Moment?

Well hopefully I had a minor breakthrough today. . .

Here is the text of an email that I just sent out in response to a communication from a woman of spirit who has a place in the religious establishment. I have deleted her name for various reasons.

Dear XXXX,

Thank you for responding to my email. I agree with what you have written below. Unfortunately my initial efforts have fallen on many deaf ears, indeed the usual passive suppression by clergy etc. who simply fail or refuse to lift a finger to help spread the news when all it would take is making photo copies and distributing them, copying and pasting my WDC chain-letter into their email lists, and agreeing to do *something* themselves on March 29th. WDC does not have the momentum that it could have, and should have. . . by now if church and indeed secular authorities of various kinds had been even minimally helpful. Having said that I will push ahead at the grassroots level and promote some disorganized religion as it were. I will continue to approach "establishment" organizations but will not waste too much time on them.

I agree that it would really be best to have a year or two to organize the first WDC, and it is partly my fault that it did not begin earlier. . . however I really did not have the "brainstorm" to go that route until late in 2005 even though I had the seeds of the idea for WDC in my mind for some years now. World Day of Conscience actually evolved out of Creation Day which always had an element of "global conscience" embedded in it. In fact one of my earliest proposals for Creation Day was that it could be a day where "people are praying for each other rather than preying upon each other". . . WDC in a nutshell I think.

I will say however that there is reasonable momentum at the "grassroots" level and I do expect that there will at least be some modest observances of World Day of Conscience here and there in the world on March 29th. There is still time to create a small miracle if enough people decide to devote time and energy to supporting, promoting, and observing the first World Day of Conscience on March 29th. The next date for World Day of Conscience will be August 1st, 2008. It will provide over two years to organize and promote WDC globally and will be ideally situated in both time and space to place a strong emphasis on prevention of nuclear war and dealing with global warming.

Any help that you can provide to ensure that the first observance of World Day of Conscience is at least a modest success on March 29th would be most appreciated. Please spread the news to as many other people that you know are likely to be open to it and ask them to do the same.

Here is my WDC "chain-letter" -

Just copy and paste it and send it out to the world.

Please get back to me ASAHP to let me know what you can and will do to help the first observance of World Day of Conscience be as global and successful as`possible. Oh yes I am a male Robin myself but I really do be believe that women need to be a major driving force behind World Day of Conscience and should be at least 50 percent of the voice of WDC.

Here is some inspiration for you and all other women in the world -

Go for it. . .

Thank-you,

Dear Mr. Edgar,

Thanks for writing. It is very heartening to see someone trying to light the spark of universal conscience in a world now so confused in it.

I need to tell you, however, that I have nothing whatsoever to do with seeing that anything is published in the XXXXXXXXXXXX. I am not the editor; I am simply a columnist.

My best advice is that you send this material to the Editor in chief, XXXX XXXXXXX. I'm sure his email address is in the paper or in the online edition at XXXXXXXXXXX.org.

I also need to say that an undertaking of this scope usually needs the prior endorsement of a well-connected national or international organization to promote it.

Finally, I think that this could well take over a year to organize through major organizational channels and will take a great deal of work on your part that far exceeds sending out an email. A group like XXXXXXXXXX might be interested but I have no particular reason whatsoever to know that.

I do, however, wish you the best in this endeavor. Never has the world needed conscience more.
