Will a World Day of Conscience for Sudan be observed in the land of Egypt on March 29th?

When in late December of 2005 I decided to go ahead with proposing that all days when the symbolic total solar eclipse "Eye of God" metaphorically looks down from the heavens upon our troubled world should become an observance of a World Day of Conscience I Googled the term "World Day of Conscience" to see if anyone had already come up with the idea of a World Day of Conscience before yours truly and had used that term to describe it. Nothing came up. Quite disappointing really. . .

I removed the word "World" and simply searched for "Day of Conscience" to see what if anything came up. Two main search results appeared. One was a National Day of Conscience to End Sweatshops and the other was a Day of Conscience to draw attention to the ongoing troubles in Sudan. Indeed there was, quite wisely , a Weekend of Conscience to Save Darfur, quite ingeniously set to coincide with United Nations Human Rights Day on December 10th, promoted by an organization called Save Darfur. According to a post on the Ripple of Hope blog the Sudan Day of Conscience idea dates back as far as August 2004 and probably somewhat earlier. An inter-faith "Day of Conscience" for Sudan quite evidently was observed in San Francisco, California and elsewhere. Google tells me that the National Council of Churches joined with the "Save Darfur" Coalition to observe August 25, 2004 as "Sudan: Day of Conscience." Needless to say I invite the National Council of Churches and similar religious organizations to join with me, and hopefully many other like-minded human beings, to promote, support, and observe World Day of Conscience on March 29, 2006 when the symbolic "Eye of God" looks down from the heavens upon our planet Earth. Indeed the total solar eclipse "Eye of God" will symbolically scan northern Africa not all that far from the Sudan, and will metaphorically "look down" on the westernmost extremity of the land of Egypt where the All-Seeing Eye of Google tells me, and indeed what Paul Martin and others call the "global conscience" of our troubled world, that 10 Sudanese "migrants" aka refugees were recently killed and 23 Egyptian police officers were wounded, during clashes that erupted when Egyptian police officers attempted to clear their camp in a city park in Cairo.

I had hoped to visit Egypt to observe and photograph the total solar eclipse "Eye of God" for my own cultural and religious purposes prior to deciding to go ahead and propose World Day of Conscience, and I had made some efforts towards doing just that. I am having second and even third thoughts about going to Egypt myself for various reasons, including the fact that I believe that it is far more important to do what I can to see to it that World Day of Conscience is observed as widely and successfully as possible on March 29th. Perhaps I may be able to kill two birds with one stone as it were. . . but I definitely would like to see World Day of Conscience observed in Egypt with observations of both the total solar eclipse "Eye of God" aka "Eye of Horus" and World Day of Conscience taking place within the shadow of the moon aka the path of totality.

Needless to say an important part of any observations of World Day of Conscience on March 29, 2005 should be to draw attention to, and propose viable solutions for, the current "situation" in Sudan, the ongoing war in Iraq, and other troubled areas of our blue planet where violence, war, terrorism and indeed genocide are still occurring, sometimes on a daily basis.

More later. . . I am a human being and can only do so much. I need to eat and sleep like everyone else and right now I am both tired and hungry, albeit not nearly as tired and hungry as many other people in the world who I sincerely hope World Day of Conscience will inspire the people of the world to provide food and rest for. . .

I am pleased to be able to sign off for now by reporting that the term "World Day of Conscience" is already showing up in major world wide web search engines like the All-Seeing Eye of Google MSN Search, and Yahoo! ;-)

The Ghost has well and truly entered the Machine. . .

All Canadian politicians, indeed all the politicians in the whole wide world, are cordially invited to observe World Day of Conscience

A couple of days ago I quite spontaneously sent out a quite humorous, but also perfectly sincere, invitation to current Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, and all the members of the federal Liberal Party of Canada, to participate in World Day of Conscience. I did this by judiciously using the Liberal Party of Canada's online contact web page.

Here is how it all came about. . . I had wanted to contact a friend of mine to invite him and his spiritual ecologist activist friends to do some brainstorming for World Day of Conscience. I spoke to him on the phone and got his email address and then I Googled his name to verify his email address. He is a member of the Green Party of Canada and it just so happened that the number one result in Google for a search on his name was the Green Party of Canada's official web page. At the time there was a message saying that the Green Party was a political party that was neither left nor right in ideology but mainly interested in promoting good ideas.

Since I happen to believe that World Day of Conscience is a really good idea whose time has come, if not long overdue. . . I spontaneously used the Green Party of Canada's online contact web page to send them an invitation to participate in the observance of World Day of Conscience on March 29th, 2006. Having done that I decided to invite the federal Liberals too. I had intended to contact the other political parties in a similar manner but I had other things to take care of and have not yet specifically invited their participation. Of course since everyone in the whole wide world is invited to observe World Day of Conscience, all Canadian politicians and all politicians all around the world are already invited anyway. . . To date I have not received any response from either the Liberal Party of Canada or the Green Party of Canada even though I specifically asked for a confirmation of receipt in my communications. I am sure that they are all very busy right now and responding to invitations to observe World Day of Conscience is not their highest priority at the moment. . .

I figure that today is as good a day as any to make these two initial semi-formal invitations to Canadian politicians to participate in World Day of Conscience public on the World Day of Conscience blog. ;-) Some Canadian federal politicians are definitely going to need some *luck* on January 23, 2006. . .

I hereby once again cordially, openly, and publicly invite current Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin and all members of the Liberal Party of Canada to help raise world consciousness to what Paul Martin and other human beings quite justifiably call "global conscience" by liberally supporting and participating in observations of World Day of Conscience in Canada and around the world on March 29th, 2006. I really would deeply appreciate it if Paul Martin would be so kind as to invite his friend Bono and U2 to help rock the conscience of the world, in the company of many other prophetic musicians, during the first observation of World Day of Conscience and future ones.

Jim Harris and all the members of the Green Party of Canada are cordially invited to help turn Canada and the whole wide world green with Global Conscience, Ecological Wisdom, Social Justice, Participatory Democracy, Non-Violence, Sustainability and Respect for Diversity on March 29th, 2006 when the total solar eclipse "Eye of God" metaphorically looks from the down on our blue, and indeed green and other fine colors, planet.

Jumpin' Jack Layton is hereby officially invited to hit the road and strum a few appropriate prophetic songs on his guitar during the observance of World Day of Conscience on March 29th, 2006 in the hope of getting results for people all around this world of ours. All New Democratic Party goers are invited to drum up a storm of left-wing conscience.

Stephen Harper and all Canadian Conservatives are cordially invited to stand up for conscience, accountability, opportunity, security, family, community and unity as well as some real change of heart. . . Canadian Conservatives can most certainly help the first observation of World Day of Conscience fly right in the True North Strong And Free by bringing some well-balanced right-wing conscience to the inaugural observance on March 29th, 2006.

My own personal political and ideological bias will be quite evident from the content of the communications reproduced below. I call upon all Canadian voters to vote with their consciences, vote strategically, and get out and vote on January 23, 2006.

Democracy is like your conscience.

If you don't use it you just may well lose it. . .

To the Screener -

Please do not censor or suppress this communication and take steps to ensure that my expression here is freely expressed to Prime Minister Paul Martin ASAP.

I am using my well-developed sense of Canuck humor here but please believe me when I say that I am very serious about what I am relating below.

Thank you,

Robin Edgar

Dear fellow small 'L' liberals.

Greetings from somewhere in Soviet Canuckistan aka the True North Strong and Free. ;-)

Will someone please see to it that Paul Martin sees hard copy of this ASAP. . .

http://worlddayofconscience.blogspot.com

BTW I did not rip him off, this idea has been gestating in my mind for a few years now and I was quite blissfully unaware of his use of the term "global conscience" when I put my initial proposal of World Day of Conscience on the internet on December 30th, 2005. I guess it just shows how out of touch I am with the real world but I was doing some heavy duty brain-storming in December and was not paying too much attention to political news. ;-)

Here is a good idea for Paul Martin and the Liberal Party of Canada, or at least the individual members of the Liberal Party of Canada, to seriously consider participating in, supporting and spreading around a bit. . .

Believe it or not I even considered calling 'World Day of Conscience' 'Global Day of Conscience' but decided that World Day of Conscience was better all round and translates better into French.

i.e. Jour de la Conscience Mondiale

Do you think that Paul Martin might give me a cabinet position if I join the Liberal Party? ;-)

I really would like Bono and U2 to participate in World Day of Conscience on March 29th, 2006 and subsequent occasions so I am asking Paul Martin to please call his friend Bono and run this by him sooner rather than later. . . Time is of the essence, as is acting on your conscience both locally and globally.

Paul Martin is hereby personally invited to observe the first World Day of Conscience with me and others on March 29th, 2006. Where there is a will there is a way. With any luck, and a bit of will we will be in Western Egypt with Bono and a whole lot of other prophetic musicians in attendance to observe World Day of Conscience under the total solar eclipse "Eye of God" and indeed the "Eye of Horus". With a bit more luck Horus and the proverbial Phoenix will put in an appearance too.

This communiqu-eh is quite spontaneous and I will be following it up with rather more formal communications in the coming days and weeks. I would appreciate it if I received an email confirmation of receipt of this communication from the Liberal Party and even a wink and a nod from Prime Minister Paul Martin if possible.

Good luck in the election. It looks like you just might need some right now but as I said where there is a will there is a way. . . Keep this in mind.

Best Regards

Robin Edgar

The World Day of Conscience Brainstorming Area and Suggestion Box. . .

Needless to say every day should be World Day of Conscience and human beings really should excercise their conscience in both breadth and depth rather more regularly than they generally do. Regularly excercising one's conscience makes for a healthy conscience. . . I will be proposing various ideas that will promote excercising our consciences more vigorously every single day of our lives and to try to do so almost constantly.

I have many ideas about how to observe World Day of Conscience on March 29th, 2006 and on the day of all future total solar eclipses when the symbolic "Eye of God" metaphorically "looks down from the heavens" on our little blue planet. I also have many ideas about how human beings can make this world of ours a better place for all of our fellow human beings, our fellow creatures and "Mother Earth" herself. This thread will be devoted to brainstorming and suggestions for World Day of Conscience observances and for ideas for making the world a better place for human beings to live in. This thread will continually evolve and will lead to the creation of other threads that go into more depth in terms of various suggestions that come from me or from others. Please add your suggestions for World Day of Conscience observances and initiatives in the comments below.

Here are some of my ideas that until now have not been committed to virtual paper. . .

As I have suggested above, a single World Day of Conscience that takes place every time a total solar eclipse occurs above our planet is not really enough. World Day of Conscience should really be celebrated twenty four hours a day and eight days a week as it were. . . Yes I do intend to suggest that genuine love and conscience are highly complimentary, if not overlapping considerably. With this in mind I think that World Day of Conscience should be surrounded, or perhaps I should say embraced, by a World Week of Conscience. I am thus proposing that the three days leading up to the day of the total solar eclipse when World Day of Conscience is to be observed should be days on which various events, observances, and last minute proposals and initiatives take place. The three days following the observance of World Day of Conscience should be devoted other events and observances with an emphasis on evaluating the hopefully very concrete initial results of World Day of Conscience observances. The first World Week of Conscience would begin on Sunday March 26, 2006 and come to a conclusion on Saturday April 2, 2006.

I believe that modern musicians who write and sing songs about matters of conscience are contemporary prophets whether they realize it or not. Ditto for all those prophetic musicians who are no longer with us in the flesh but are very much with us in the spirit. There are many popular songs that would be highly appropriate songs to be performed during concerts that would observe World Day of Conscience. I will be starting a new thread for suggestions for songs that could and should be sung during World Week of Conscience and performers who could and perhaps even should ;-) perform them.

Instrumental compositions are also quite appropriate if their title or other aspects have something to do with excercising conscience, love, and human rights and freedom etc. I thus believe that Beethoven's 9th symphony would be highly appropriate as might many other classical compositions. Yes I do realize that Beethoven's 9th symphony does actually include some rather prophetic singing during the choral movement but you get my drift. . . Gustav Holst's 'The Planets' in it's entirety, or pertinent movements thereof, would be quite appropriate as far as I am concerned. Likewise modern electronic trance music could be perfectly appropriate for observing World Day of Conscience as well. A few World Day of Conscience raves might be both entertaining and educational.

It pretty much goes without saying that all the musicians in the world are invited to perform concerts to raise funds for all kinds of good causes during World Week of Conscience but it would be great to have a really big one in the tradition of Live Aid, Live Eight etc. on World Day of Conscience with some stages set up in the path of totality itself I would however ask request that any concerts in the path of totality be scheduled in such a way that at least an hour of silence embraces totality itself. In fact it would be great to see some rock bands or other musical groups that have broken up over personal differences, or other reasons, get together again for World Week of Conscience and hopefully at least a bit longer. . .

I would like to see The Police act as world-wide peace officers on World Day of Conscience. A spirited performance of Invisible Sun would be most appropriate. . . as would Truth Hits Everybody, Message In A Bottle and Driven To Tears, and Walking In Your Footsteps. . .

Nena, and a whole lot of other bands including the inimitable Björk, are invited to perform '99 Red Balloons' 99 times or more. . . during World Week of Conscience. I will be buying 99 heart-shaped red balloons in the near future and be putting them to good use. . .

That's it for now but I will be adding quite a bit more to this thread when I can and I welcome all kinds of suggestions from other human beings in the comments section below.
